Timber
Timber comes from bark. It is used as a structural material
for construction. Finished timber is supplied in standard sizes for
construction. Defects in Timber can happen due to the process of converting
timber for commercial use. Defects include chip marks or torn grains. If timber
has moisture above 25% it will start decaying. However wood submerged in water
may not be attacked if the amount of oxygen is inadequate, Insects also can be
responsible for the decay of timber. Under proper conditions, timber provides
excellent and a long lasting performance
Limestone
Limestone is a sedimentary rock composed of different
crystal forms and/or fragments of marine organisms such as coral. It is used
for building material as floors, walls and boundaries. Limestone is a softer
stone than granite or marble, it’s not as durable however it can be sealed or
treated to prolong the lifespan.
Terracotta
Terracotta is a type of baked clay that can be glazed or not
glazed, its uses include, water and waste water pipes, bricks and surface
embellishment in building construction. Terracotta is produced by being moulded
into the desired shape after drying in kiln then fired in oven temperatures of
1000 degrees Celsius.
