Week 5

My strategy behind interactively demonstrating a notion of decay will be put through the breakage of glass. As all elements of the house of Bordeaux are made of extremely solid materials such as steel and concrete. The lightest and easiest to break is the fragile and already fractured glass.

Ive been inspired by horror or abandoned building films to get ideas on the elements that can be applied to my environent to create an abandoned feel to it.

Ive been inspired by the external scenes of the house. The fog, shadows and murky scenes give a sence of screening.

The abandoned building is opened spaced like the house of Bordeaux. The water leakage can be applied to the house of Bordeaux.

The city landscape abandoned and replaced by zombies is a good way of fitting in an abandoned scene. Even adding a new species to the environemt such as zombies can depict the concept of life after people.

Scenes were shot from an abandoned power generation station to create the chilling shots to depict the post apocalyptic future.

The film is about a couple of guys trying to remodel this abandoned hospital. The horror night sneaky or hidden camera scenes depicted can be applied to the house of Bordeaux environment to create a lonesome vibe

Week 3 - Independent study

Steel

Steel is an alloy made by combining iron and other elements and is an inexpensive mass-produced material. Steel is one of the most common materials in the world, with more than 1.3 billion tons produced annually. It is a major component in buildings, infrastructure, tools, ships, automobiles, machines, appliances, and weapons. When impure (cast) iron is in contact with water, oxygen, or other strong oxidants, or acids, it rusts. If salt is present, for example in seawater or salt spray, the iron tends to rust more quickly, as a result of electrochemical reactions.

 

Concrete

Concrete is a composite construction material composed primarily of aggregate, cement, and water. The aggregate is generally a coarse gravel or crushed rocks such as limestone, or granite, along with a fine aggregate such as sand. Concrete has relatively high compressive strength, but much lower tensile strength. For this reason it is usually reinforced with materials that are strong in tension (often steel). Concrete can be damaged by many processes, such as the freezing of trapped water. Concrete is widely used for making architectural structures, foundations, brick/block walls, pavements, bridges/overpasses, motorways/roads, runways, parking structures, dams, pools/reservoirs, pipes, footings for gates, fences and poles and even boats. Concrete can be damaged by many processes, such as the expansion of corrosion products of the steel reinforcement bars, freezing of trapped water, fire or radiant heat, aggregate expansion, sea water effects, bacterial corrosion, leaching, erosion by fast-flowing water, physical damage and chemical damage.

 

Glass

Glass is an amorphous (non-crystalline) solid material. Glasses are typically brittle and optically transparent. The most familiar type of glass, used for centuries in windows and drinking vessels. Glass is used for architecture application, illumination, electrical transmission, instruments for scientific research, optical instruments, domestic tools and even textiles. Glass does not deteriorate, corrode, stain or fade and therefore is one of the safest packaging materials.
